About the Artists

Matt and Elaine Vardjan

Matt and Elaine Vardjan

These items are produced in the home of Matt and Elaine Vardjan. Elaine is the artist, reproducing and creating the designs which have been a part of her family background since her ancestors settled in the Upper Tulpehocken area of northern Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA in the late 1700`s.

Elaine and Matt have been working together since 1974. The items are printed using antique printing presses which were first brought into the family about 1904 by Irvin Kalbach. Many hand-carved blocks were made by his daughter, Dorothy Kalbach, who started making them about 1945.

Because these items are hand-done from designing, carving the blocks, printing and packaging, each is truly a `one-of-a-kind` work of art.
